$340,000 Constitution colt tops first day of Fasig-Tipton New York Preferred sale

John Terranova, agent, went to $340,000 to secure hip No. 342 during Sunday evening’s Fasig-Tipton New York-bred Preferred Yearlings sale, giving Constitution the session-topper on the first day of the Aug. 11-12 sale at Saratoga.

Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services LLC, agent, consigned the bay colt. He is out of Arkis Queen, whose siblings included graded stakes winners Indescribable and Micromanage. Their dam Catnip is a half-sister to European champion Hold that Tiger and Belmont S. (G1) winner Editor’s Note.

“We were really happy we got him,” Terranova said. “We looked at him and thought he was the best horse in the sale. Obviously, Constitution has gotten off to a fast start with his 2-year-olds and he has had some versatile runners on the track already.”

Constitution had some excellent results during Monday’s session as well, with hip No. 559, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency going to China Horse Club and Maverick Racing for $275,000. The chestnut juvenile is out of the Super Saver mare Polly Freeze and is from the same family as Grade 1 winner Cross Traffic and multiple graded winner Gouldings Green.

Constitution is currently the No. 1 First-Crop sire in North America with seven individual winners, including two graded stakes winners: Amalfi Sunrise (G2) and By Your Side (G3).
