$525,000 Pioneerof the Nile colt sets record at OBS June Sale

A bay colt from the first crop of WinStar stallion Pioneerof the Nile set a June Sale record $525,000 to top the final session of the OBS 2013 June Sale of 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age.

The previous high-water mark at the sale was $350,000 for an Exclusive Quality colt sold last year.

Eddie Woods consigned hip No. 492, who went to Ernie Semersky and Dory Newell’s Conquest Stables LLC. Bred in Kentucky by Dixiana Farms, the colt, named Tracker Jacker, is out of the stakes-placed Early Vintage, by Jump Start. The sale topper worked an eighth in :10 1/5 at Saturday’s Under Tack session.

“We liked the way he worked and galloped out,” said Semersky. “He has a beautiful stride, and the colt has distance on both sides of the pedigree.”

A winner of the Grade 1 CashCall Futurity at age 2 and Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby at 3, Pioneerof the Nile has been a huge hit at the 2-year-old auctions this year. Prior to the OBS sale, he has had 18 lots sell for an average of $135,194, more than nine times his 2013 stud fee of $15,000.
