American Patriot sets track record in Grade 3 Kent S.

WinStar Farm’s homebred colt American Patriot set a course record Saturday at Delaware Park while winning the 1 1/8-mile Kent S. (G3), the first stakes score for the 3-year-old colt.

Breaking from post five, American Patriot quickly found his way to the rail as the field moved from the turf chute onto the main course. Rated nicely in third under Jose Ortiz, American Patriot stayed on the rail until the top of the stretch, when Ortiz shifted to the outside of He’ll Pay.

American Patriot took over the lead with just over a furlong to run, drawing off in the final strides to win by 1 1/2-lengths in 1:47.19 for the 1 1/8-miles on the firm turf (VIDEO).

The victory upped American Patriot’s record to 3-0-2 in six outings, with a bankroll of $212,800.

American Patriot is by War Front out of Life Well Lived, who is a half-sister to Dubai World Cup (G1) winner Well Armed. She is also responsible for the unraced 2-year-old filly Well Humored (Distorted Humor) and produced a filly by Pioneerof the Nile Feb. 4. She was bred back to Super Saver in 2016.
