American Pharoah co-high weight on Experimental Free Handicap

Pioneer of the Nile’s American Pharoah, champion 2-year-old male and winner of the Del Mar Futurity (G1) and the FrontRunner S. (G1), shared the high weight of 126 pounds with Texas Red on The Jockey Club’s 2014 Experimental Free Handicap, released Jan. 29 by The Jockey Club.

The Jockey Club Experimental Free Handicap is a weight-based assessment of the previous year’s leading 2-year-olds, with the weights compiled for a hypothetical race at 1 1/16 miles.

By 2014’s leading Second-crop stallion Pioneerof the Nile, American Pharoah is trained by Bob Baffert. He won two out of three starts in 2014 with earnings of $361,500.

While a minor issue caused American Pharoah to miss the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1), he is galloping daily at Santa Anita and is pointing for a March 7 return in the $400,000 San Felipe S. (G2), also at Santa Anita.
