American Sugar tastes victory in Goldfinch S.

American Sugar, a 3-year-old Harlan’s Holiday filly, boosted her bankroll past the $200,000 mark with a nifty win in the $60,000 Goldfinch S. at Prairie Meadows on Saturday evening. The accomplished sophomore now has four black-type victories to her credit.

Tucked in along the inside for the first half-mile, American Sugar swung three-wide into the stretch to wear down pacesetter Livin Peace in deep stretch, winning by a head in 1:10.39 for the six furlongs on a fast track.

A filly that seems to thrive on racing often, American Sugar is now 5-0-3 in 12 starts, with stakes wins in the Prairie Gold Lassie S., E. L. Gaylord Memorial S., and Dixie Belle S. prior to Saturday’s winning effort. Bred in Kentucky by Fares Farm LLC, she is owned by Poindexter Thoroughbreds LLC.

American Sugar is one of 10 stakes horses this year by her sire, led by the Grade 2 Top Flight H. winner Summer Applause. A top-15 sire in North America, Harlan’s Holiday stands the 2013 season at WinStar Farm for $35,000 LFS&N.
