Aquamarine a worthy Keeneland allowance winner

Gemologist’s 3-year-old colt Aquamarine made his first start for Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas April 22 at Keeneland and came away a half-length winner in a very salty six-furlong allowance contest on the muddy main track.

In a four-way battle between horses early on, Aquamarine was four-wide on the turn and didn’t get to the front until deep stretch, gamely holding off Lenstar to finish the distance in 1:11.47.

Aquamarine has won two of four starts and now has earned $80,880 for Zayat Stables in his young career. The winner sold to his owners for $240,000 at the 2015 OBS SummerYearling Sale.

Among Gemologist’s 15 winners this year for the top-10 Second-Crop sire are graded stakes winner Golden Diamond and stakes-placed Gemologister.
