Colonel John colt sells for $290K at OBS

A juvenile from the first crop by Colonel John was the top-selling colt during the first day of the April 22-25 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2013 Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training in central Florida.

Hip No. 26, consigned by de Meric Sales, Agent, went to Steven W. Young, Agent, for $290,000. The bay colt, who worked an eighth in :10 flat at last week’s under tack show, is out of Always Ready, by Dixieland Band, a half sister to millionaire and Grade One stakes winner More Than Ready.

After a 2012 yearling sales average of $95,380, Colonel John’s 2-year-olds have bettered that mark at this year’s auctions, averaging $111,250 prior to the start of the OBS sale. The figure ranks in the top 10 for all 2013 Freshman sires.
