Banker’s Buy cashes in Miss South Shore

Banker’s Buy, a 5-year-old mare by Distorted Humor, won the $60,000 Miss South Shore S. July 17 at Belmont Park, becoming the 15th stakes winner of 2011 for her sire, tops among all North American stallions. The WinStar stallion has accounted for a similar number of stakes wins this year, also tops on the sire list.

Banker’s Buy won the one mile Miss South Shore by 2 3/4-lengths with a bold three-wide move on the turn, taking over about 3/16ths from the wire. This is the first stakes win for the New York bred, who has placed in three other stakes on the Empire State circuit.

Michael Rankowitz & The Estate of Peter Karches bred Banker’s Buy out of the Forty Niner mare Lady Diplomat. She has produced the stakes winners Glacken’s Gal and City Dweller.

Banker’s Buy has earned $244,458 from a mark of 5-6-1 in 22 starts for owner Ed Cox, Jr. Cox paid $450,000 for Banker’s Buy at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale.
