Legal Mind captures the Auto Nation Spring S.
Bellamy Road's Legal Mind became the latest stakes winner for her sire with a 2 1/2-length victory in the $50,000 Auto Nation Spring S. for 3-year-old fillies March 16 at Sam Houston Race Park.

Owned by Tom Durant, the dark bay filly broke her maiden on Oct. 26 at Retama Park, then came off the pace to score by two lengths in an allowance at Sam Houston on Feb. 9.

Kept her in a comfortable tracking position by jockey Gerardo Mora early in the one-mile contest, Livin Peace took the lead to get the half-mile in :47.55. The rail opened up in upper stretch, and Mora guided his filly through the gap to pull away for the win. She covered the distance over the fast main track in of 1:39.76.

"She's been training really well and my crew has been touting her strongly,” said winning trainer Jack Bruner. "Gerry (Mora) gave her a great ride”

Bruner indicated that the Illinois-bred filly will head to Chicago this summer. Legal Mind is now 3-1-0 in five starts, earning $57,380. Out of Bold Honoree, Legal Mind is a half-sister to the stakes winner Thewayitusedtobe.

Legal Mind topped a solid Saturday for Bellamy Road, who also had All Squared Away run second in the $150,000 San Luis Rey S. (G2) at Santa Anita Park. Significantly, the San Luis Rey winner Bright Thought set a world record of 2:22.72 on the firm turf.
