Bellamy Star showed true star quality in her stakes debut, speeding to a 1:21 flat victory in the Xtra Heat S. (VIDEO) on June 5 at Belmont Park.
The 3-year-old filly also became the sixth stakes winner from the
first crop by Bellamy Road, the nation's second-leading sophomore sire.
Bellamy Road now has eight stakes horses overall, three stakes winners
of 2011, all from his first crop, including Wood Memorial (G1) winner
Toby's Corner.
In the $60,000 Xtra Heat, Bellamy Star drew the rail, and was forwardly
placed under Ramon Dominguez from the outset. Dominguez took her in hand
to settle in the third spot until just before the homestretch, when he
wen two wide to take aim on the leaders. With a nice turn of foot,
Bellamy Star reeled in pacesetter Sunlight Sonata at the sixteenth pole,
and pulled away to a 1 1/4-length win on the firm turf. She earned an
88 Beyer Speed Figure, a career best.
Kinsman Stable, who also campaigned Bellamy Road, owns and bred Bellamy
Star in Florida. With the win, she is now 2-1-0 with earnings of
$59,970.
