Big numbers for Speightstown at Kee Day 1

Leading sire Speightstown brought some big prices during the first day of the Keeneland September Yearling sale, with a pair of colts selling for $500,000 and $485,000.

Hip No. 40 was Speightstown’s top seller of Monday’s session. The colt was consigned by Dromoland Farm and bought by Shadwell Estate Company, Ltd. The colt is out of the unraced Unbridled’s Song mare Listen to My Song, who is a half-sister to Amsterdam S. (G2) winner Listen Here.

Hip No. 113, consigned by Paramount Sales, went to Al Shahania Stud. The chestnut colt comes from a top-class European family; out of the stakes-winning Irish mare Nafisah, who is the dam of U.A.E. Group 3 winner Snaafy and a half-sister to Irish highweight older horse Mutakarrim.

Speightstown had a total of four yearlings sell during the session, for a total of $1,585,000 and an average of $396,250, third-best for any sire with more than one lot sold.
