Bodemeister filly tallies sharp score in FG turf MdSpWt

Rickey’s Girl unleashed a strong kick in the final furlong of a one-mile maiden special weight turf affair Saturday at Fair Grounds, with the 2-year-old Bodemeister filly coming away with a widening three-length victory in her first grass start and second overall.

She is the 11th winner this year for her sire, who currently sits in sixth on the 2016 Freshman Sire list. Bodemeister has done exceedingly well in the sales ring as well, with his yearlings averaging $129,476, tops among all sires of his generation.

Wide in mid-pack early, Rickey’s Girl went inside on the final turn, then swung out once again to take command with a furlong to go, finishing the “about” one mile in 1:36.60 on firm turf.

The winner was bred in Kentucky by Lakland Farm and sold for $100,000 at the 2014 Keeneland November Sale.
