Bodemeister has top colt at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale

First-year sire Bodemeister had the top-selling colt at the Oct. 6 Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Yearling sale, a $190,000 juvenile consigned by Dark Hollow Farm, agent and purchased by Peter Angelos.

The bay colt, hip No. 231, is a half-brother to three-time stakes winner Joy and stakes-placed Combat Diver. Their dam Safe Journey is a half-sister to the top sprinter Kettle Won and is a direct descendant of Safely Home, the dam of champion Safely Kept.

Bodemeister’s yearlings have been some of the most sought-after offerings during the 2015 auction season, bringing an average of $188,295 from 66 lots sold, which is the best figure for all Freshman sires. His top filly to date sold for $850,000 at Keeneland September, while his top colt went for $500,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Selected sale in August.
