Bodemeister in-foal mare offered at auction brings $1.85 million at Fasig-Tipton

Millionaire Careless Jewel, one of the first in-foal mares offered at auction by brilliant Grade 1 winner Bodemeister, brought a winning bid of $1.85 million at the Fasig-Tipton November sale on Monday evening.

Bodemeister, who entered stud at WinStar Farm in 2013, stood the 2013 season for $30,000 LFS&N, when he was bred to 173 mares.

Careless Jewel was offered by Bluewater Sales, agent and procured by Summer Wind Farm. The 7-year-old mare’s signature wins came in the Grade 1 Alabama S., Grade 2 Cotillion S., and Grade 2 Delaware Oaks on her way to earning $1,013,346.

Bodemeister had an equally remarkable career for Zayat Stables, winning the Arkansas Derby (G1) by some ten lengths, as well as finishing second in both the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness S. (G1).
