Boisterous makes noise in Three Coins Up

Boisterous became stakes winner number 101 for Distorted Humor with a three-quarter length victory in the $60,000 Three Coins Up at Belmont Park on May 22. Distorted Humor has 10 stakes winners this year, tops among all North American stallions.

In the 1 1/4-mile turf marathon, Boisterous came from third place to reel in front-runner Grand Rapport in the last eighth mile, then held off 8-5 favorite Grassy in the final strides. Boisterous, a 4-year-old Phipps Stable homebred ran the 1 1/4 miles in 2:06.99 seconds on a yielding inner turf course under John Velazquez.

Boisterous, 4-year-old, has really come into his own of late, winning four of his last five starts, all of them at 1 1/16 miles or more. He has now won $140,057 for Phipps and trainer Shug McGaughey.

Boisterous is from a typical top-class Phipps mare, Emanating, who won $273,030 and accounted for the Polly Drummond S. and placed in three graded stakes, including the Test (G1) and Lake Placid H. (G2). The family also boasts Grade 1 winners Versailles Treaty and Gold Fever.
