Burban romps in CD’s Roxelana S.

Burban, a 5-year-old Speightstown mare, galloped to her second stakes win of 2013 on Saturday night with a front-running 3 1/4-length score in the $65,111 Roxelana S. at Churchill Downs.

With $5.46 million in progeny earnings this year, Speightstown ranks third on the General Sire list. His runners have accounted for 89 wins and 13 stakes wins, both second-most of all North American sires.

Burban controlled the six-furlong Roxelana from the outset, zipping through the first half-mile in :45.27, then pulling clear in the stretch to stop the timer in a quick 1:09.49 on a fast track. She earned a career-best 98 Beyer Speed Figure for the effort.

The winner, trained by Eddie Kenneally, is now 5-2-0 in nine starts, bankrolling $277,736 for her owner Joseph Sutton. She captured the $75,000 Break Through S. in April at Aqueduct for her first stakes win.

Sutton acquired Burban at the 2009 Keeneland September Yearling sale, going to $90,000 to secure the dark bay Kentucky-bred.
