Captainof the Nile sails home in Ellis MSW

With a resolute stretch drive Saturday at Ellis Park, Captainof the Nile gave top-10 freshman sire Pioneerof the Nile his fifth winner from his first crop, the most of any first-year sire standing in Kentucky.

Pioneerof the Nile, a Grade 1 winner at two and three, stood the 2013 season at WinStar for $15,000, stands and nurses, and is currently available to breed to southern hemisphere mares for $7,500.

First-time starter Captainof the Nile got rolling in the middle of the turn in Saturday’s 5 1/2-furlong affair, coming from sixth to assume command in upper stretch, edging clear late to win by a length in 1:04.79.

Bred in Kentucky by Patinack Farm, Captainof the Nile is the first foal out of the unraced Victory Party. The mare’s siblings include 2012 2-year-old Eclipse Champion filly Beholder as well as 2007 CashCall Futurity (G1) winner Into Mischief.
