Carpe Diem seizes top spot in debut

WinStar Farm LLC and Stonestreet Stable’s Carpe Diem took control in mid-stretch en route to a 2 ½-length score in his career debut Monday at Saratoga.

The 2-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway got plenty of fanfare when he was the $1.6 million sales topper at the OBS March Select Sale, and got plenty of backing off a five furlong bullet work a week ago. Despite plenty of pressure for the first half-mile, Carpe Diem summoned the reserve to pull away late and getting the 5 ½-furlongs in 1:03.99 (VIDEO).

The winner, out of the stakes winner Rebridled Dreams, was bred in Kentucky by Coffee Pot Stable and is a half-brother to Breeders’ Futurity (G1) winner J. B.’s Thunder.
