Colonel John filly crushes foes in Angie C. S.

Karula was making her racing debut, but lack of experience didn’t hold back the 2-year-old daughter of Colonel John, who rocketed to an 11-length victory in the $50,000 Angie C. S. Sunday at Emerald Downs.

Karula’s ten foes all had at least one start to their credit, but when the gates opened, Karula had opened a length lead in less than a quarter mile. The 3-5 favorite was giving chase, but simply couldn’t keep up as Karula continued to widen her margin and was all alone in the stretch.

The winner is owned by her breeder Oak Crest Farm. Her dam Desert Liaison has produced eight foals, including Frizette S. (G1) winner Sutra and is from the same family as millionaire Grade 1 winner Colonial Waters.

Colonel John is the sire of 20 lifetime stakes winners, with earnings nearing $10 million. He is the leading Fourth-Crop sire of 2016 by winners and wins.
