Congrats’ Pat On the Back scampers to victory in $250,000 Sleepy Hollow S.

Heavy rains at Belmont Park didn’t stop Pat On the Back from scoring his second stakes win in his young career in the $250,000 Sleepy Hollow S. on a very wet Saturday afternoon.

The 2-year-old son of Congrats, who is the nation’s leading sire of winners in 2016, came on top right out of the gate, but was quickly joined by Haul Anchor for the backstretch run. Those two ran in tandem until hitting the three furlong mark, when Pat On the Back began to pull away. With no real threats in the stretch, Pat On the Back and Dylan Davis coasted home a 1 1/2-length winner over a very sloppy racetrack.

Pat On the Back, who won the $120,000 Aspirant S. last month for owners Hal Lerner, AWC Stables and Nehoc Stables and trainer Ken McPeek, is now 3-1-0 in five starts and has banked $300,020.

The winner was bred in New York by Sugar Maple Farm.
