Constellation shines once again in $150,000 Furlough S.

Constellation, a 2-year-old daughter to Bellamy Road, turned in her best performance of her young career on Thanksgiving with a dominating eight-length win in Aqueduct’s $150,000 Furlough S.

Already twice graded stakes-placed, Constellation proved too much for her foes, drawing off at the top of the stretch without any urging from jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. The distinct-marked filly, named for the white spots throughout her chestnut coat, covered the six furlongs in 1:10.39 on a fast main track.

“Drawing the outside post helped us out a little bit being able to see how things would play out but she’s a really nice filly,” said Toby Sheets, assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen. “I don’t think it would’ve mattered today where we drew. Irad said she settled nicely today, she was a little keen her last race back at Belmont, but she did everything great and professionally.”

Constellation’s four-race career includes a maiden debut win Aug. 9 at Saratoga, when she was named a TDN Rising Star, a third in the Spinaway S. (G1), and second in the Matron S. (G2) last month. To date, she was won $214,800 for her owner LNJ Foxwoods.

The winner is the second foal out of For Royalty, a stakes winner at two and a sister to three-time Grade 1 winner El Viento.
