Constitution’s $280,000 filly purchased during the first session of the June 12-14 OBS 2-year-olds in Training Sale was not only the top-priced filly of the day, but also the highest price paid for any offspring of a First-Crop sire.
Consigned by Potrero Stables, hip No. 256 went to Phil and Christine Hatfield following a quarter-mile work of 21 seconds flat during the auction’s Under Tack Show.
Consigned on behalf of breeder Calumet Farm, the bay filly’s dam Dr. Zic, winner of the Madison S. (G1) at Keeneland, was acquired by Calumet for $185,000 carrying this foal in utero at the 2017 Fasig-Tipton February Sale. Dr. Zic’s four foals to race include stakes winner Molto Bella and stakes-placed Take Charge Aubrey.
Freshman sire Constitution’s first winner Aurelia Garland was named a TDN Rising Star following her maiden special weight debut win at Belmont Park.
