Constitution’s Amalfi Sunrise shines in debut at Santa Anita Park

First-Crop sire Constitution got his second “TDN Rising Star” Sunday at Santa Anita Park when Amalfi Sunrise sauntered to a 6 1/4-length maiden special weight win at 4 1/2-furlongs.

Out of the gate quickly, the 2-year-old filly battled closely with Save the Story for the lead until just before entering the stretch, when accelerated away quickly and was widening her lead the rest of the way despite being eased up late (VIDEO).

The final time of :52.49 earned her an excellent Beyer Speed Figure of 88.

Owned by Marsha Naify and Doug Branham, Amalfi Sunrise was bred in Kentucky by Jack Mandato and sold for $185,000 at this year’s OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training after working a furlong in :09 4/5. Out of Soot Z, the winner is a half-sister to the group stakes-placed Gotti.

Amalfi Sunrise is Constitution fourth winner from his first crop, all coming in maiden special weight races. His first winner, Aurelia Garland, was also named a Rising Star. Constitution is Kentucky’s leading First-Crop sire to date by earnings and second by winners.
