Daria’s Angel flies high in Fair Grounds MdSpWt

Gemologist got his third and most impressive maiden winner of the week on Saturday at Fair Grounds when the 3-year-old filly Daria’s Angel soared to an eight-length victory in an one mile and 70 yard maiden special weight race.

Making her first start beyond six furlongs, Daria’s Angel wasted little time going to the front and set a measured pace for the first half-mile, then began to pull away while widening her margin the rest of the way. The final time was 1:43.24 on the fast main track.

Daria’s Angel was bred by Hargus and Sandra Sexton and Silver Fern Farm and is out of the stakes-winning mare R Charlie’s Angel. She is trained by Bret Calhoun for Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch.

After wrapping up 2016 as a top-five Freshman Sire, Gemologist has accounted for six winners this year and is once again in the top five on the Second-Crop Sire list.
