Distorted Humor adds new SW at Oaklawn
Sunday, January 20, 2013
Distorted Humor's Cheery got her first career stakes win Sunday in the $60,000 American Beauty S. at Oaklawn Park. The 4-year-old homebred, owned by Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider, was a length and a quarter the best in the six furlong contest for older fillies and mares.

Cheery takes the American Beauty S.
Cheery, whose four previous wins came in front-running fashion, showed a new dimension in her seasonal debut by sitting off the pace set by Mysterious Chimes through an opening half mile in :46.57. When jockey Victor Lebron called on her, Cheery responded with gusto, drawing off to get the distance in 1:11.58.

Cheery improved her career record to 5-2-0 in nine starts and has now earned $172,762. She was second in the Dream Supreme S. at Churchill Downs in her last start prior to the American Beauty.

Cheery is out of the A.P. Indy mare Yell, winner of the Davona Dale S. (G2) and Raven Run S. (G3). Yell is a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Roar and Grade 3 winner Blare of Trumpets.

Distorted Humor has been one of the top-ranked sires over the past decade, and once again finished 2012 ranked in the top 10 on the General Sire list, with over $8 million in progeny earnings. He accounted for 17 stakes wins in 2012, topped off by Jimmy Creed's victory in the Grade 1 Malibu S. on Dec. 26.
