Drosselmeyer ranked 1st in world on dirt

When the final 2011 World Thoroughbred Rankings were released by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities on Jan. 10, Drosselmeyer was the top ranked dirt horse at 124 pounds.

Drosselmeyer carried the colors of WinStar Farm to victory in the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) in Nov. at Churchill Downs. The victory propelled his sire Distorted Humor to the top spot on the 2011 General Sire List and made Drosselmeyer the leading money earner of 2011.

Drosselmeyer completed his career with earnings of $3,728,170. In addition to the Breeders’ Cup, he won the 2010 Belmont S. (G1) and is the only horse, besides A.P. Indy, to win both races.

Bred to be a champion, Drosselmeyer is out of the multiple Grade 1 winning mare Golden Ballet, who has also produced Affectionately H. winner Stage Luck. Drosselmeyer sold for $600,000 at the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale.

Drosselmeyer will join his sire this year at WinStar Farm, where he will stand his first season for $17,500, LFS&N.
