Drosselmeyer’s Breeders’ Cup Classic win named NTRA “Moment of the Year”

Drosselmeyer’s courageous come-from-behind victory over Game on Dude in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) was voted the 2011 National Thoroughbred Racing Association “Moment of the Year.” The balloting of racing enthusiasts was conducted at ntra.com and offered voters 12 different choices.

Ridden by Mike Smith for trainer Bill Mott, Drosselmeyer was the leading money earner of 2011. In the Classic, he had to come from well back in the field, going eight wide in the stretch to run down Game on Dude in the final strides.

The connections of Drosselmeyer will be honored at the Eclipse Award ceremony Jan. 16, in Beverly Hills, Calif., with the “NTRA Moment of the Year” award. Mott is also a finalist for the leading trainer Eclipse Awards. Finalists for Horse of the Year will be announced the night of the ceremony.

Drosselmeyer will join his sire Distorted Humor this year at WinStar Farm, where he will stand his first season for $17,500, LFS&N.
