Fasig-Tipton sale continues with big numbers for Pioneerof the Nile

Leading sire Pioneerof the Nile had a stellar closing session of the Aug. 6-7 Saratoga Select Yearlings sale, with three lots selling for an average of $350,000.

Leading the way was hip No. 179, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency and purchased by Spendthrift Farm for $600,000. The bay colt is the first foal out of the stakes-winning Curlin mare Blue Violet, who herself is the daughter of multiple stakes winner Gasia.

Late in the session hip No. 228, consigned by Brookdale Sales, agent, went to Whisper Hill Farm for an even $300,000. The bay filly’s Ghostzapper dam, Ghost of Sage Cat, is a half-sister to Sanford S. (G2) winner Desert Party and black type winner Elliecat.

Pioneerof the Nile had a total of five lots sell over the two-day auction, for an outstanding average of $422,000.
