First foal is a filly for 3-time G1 winner Exaggerator

WinStar Farm’s Exaggerator, the 3-time Grade 1 multimillionaire and Classic-winning son of Curlin, sired his first reported foal Saturday, Jan. 13th when a bay filly was born at Sugar Maple Farm in Poughquag, NY.

Bred by SF Bloodstock, the filly is out of Graded stakes winner Nikki’s SmartyPants, a daughter of Smarty Jones out of a half-sister to multiple G1 winner Diamondrella (GB) and stakes winner Bonnie Blue Flag.

“This Exaggerator filly is quite impressive,” said Dan Hayden of Sugar Maple Farm. “She has great length of leg, great bone, good angles and is very correct. She also has a beautiful head that signals her quality. An overall lovely model.”

Exaggerator retired to WinStar after an accomplished 3-year-old season in 2016, winning the Preakness S. (G1), Haskell Inv. (G1) and Santa Anita Derby (G1). He remains the last 3-year-old colt or gelding to capture three Grade 1 wins. Exaggerator was also a fast-closing runner-up to Nyquist in the Kentucky Derby (G1) at three.

As a 2-year-old, Exaggerator won the Saratoga Special S. (G2) and $1 million Delta Jackpot (G3). An earner of $3,581,120, he is his sire Curlin’s all-time leading earner, and also holds the distinctions as Curlin’s only Graded-winning juvenile and only 3-time Grade 1-winning son standing stud.

Exaggerator proved to be popular in his first season standing at WinStar, covering 162 mares in 2017, including 34 Graded stakes winners/producers and the dams of nine Grade 1 winners. Exaggerator is out of the Vindication mare Dawn Raid, a stakes-placed 2-year-old performer herself and half-sister to Canadian champion Embur’s Song. He is set to stand his second season at WinStar for a fee of $30,000 S&N.
