Gemologist’s, whose first foals are 2-year-olds of 2016, had his first yearling sell at the Keeneland September sale, bringing a winning bid of $400,000, more than 25 times his stud fee of $15,000.
Hip No. 420, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, was purchased by Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC. The Kentucky-bred colt is out of Japanese Garden, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes-placed Fircroft and from the same family as millionaires North Sider and Zanjero.
Gemologist has 42 remaining lots in the auction, which runs through September 25.
