Front-running stakes score for Speightstown mare

Hip Hop N Jazz used her natural speed to zip to a 1 1/2-length victory in the Houston Distaff S. on Saturday evening at Sam Houston Park.  The victory was the first win for the newly-turned 5-year-old daughter of Speightstown, who finished third in the 2015 Delaware Oaks (G3).

Making just her eighth lifetime start, Hip Hop N Jazz controlled the pace throughout the 1 1/16-mile turf contest, completing the distance in 1:43.93 on the firm turf.

“In her last race, she went to the front and won easily. I was pretty confident she could do the same today,” said winning rider Florent Geroux.

“She’s really come along and has really started to figure it out,” added Mel Williams, assistant to trainer Tom Proctor.

Hip Hop N Jazz is 4-3-1 in her eight starts, with earnings of $169,600 for her owner/breeder Heider Family Stables LLC. The winner is out of the Pleasant Tap mare Solo Survivor, who won the the Arlington Matron H. (G3).
