G1 winner Gemologist shuttling to Chile

Grade 1 winner Gemologist will shuttle to Haras Santa Olga Farm in Santiago, Chile for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season, and the regally-bred Grade 1 winner is set to enter quarantine next Monday, with his last mares to be covered from his American book this Sunday.

Gemologist, who stands at WinStar Farm, will be shuttling for the first time after his third breeding season in the States. The deal was brokered by Sullivan Bloodstock in Chile in conjunction with Matt Bowling Bloodstock in Lexington, KY.

“We are extremely excited to be able to offer a horse like Gemologist to the Chilean breeders,” said J.P. Sullivan of Haras Santa Olga. “We loved his pedigree, race record, and confirmation, but after inspecting many of his babies we were hooked. We are very appreciative to WinStar Farm and Matt Bowling for this opportunity.”

An earner of $794,855 on the track, Gemologist capped an undefeated juvenile campaign with a win in the Kentucky Jockey Club S. (G2), before going on to win the $1 million Wood Memorial S. (G1) as a 3-year-old to start his career a perfect 5-for-5.

Out of the Mr. Prospector mare Crystal Shard, Gemologist hails from a rich Ned Evans female family, and he represents Tiznow as arguably his best-looking and best-bred son at stud. His first yearlings hit the sale market this year, including eight cataloged for next month’s Fasig-Tipton July sale in Lexington.
