G3 Schuylerville goes to Bellamy Road filly

Georgie’s Angel turned in another impressive performance in the $100,000 Schuylerville S. (G3) July 22 at Saratoga, winning by a 1 1/2-lengths under a very confident ride by John Velazquez (VIDEO).

Going off the 4-5 favorite, Georgie’s Angel was in third while going three wide around the turn for the first half mile. Coming even wider into the straightaway, the dark bay 2-year-old powered to the front and maintained her advantage to the wire. She completed the six furlongs in 1:10.68.

Georgie’s Angel is owned by Sheffer Racing Stable and is now 2-for-2 after a 6 1/4-length maiden romp July 4 at Churchill Downs. The Schuylerville raised her earnings to $95,820. Out of the Dynaformer mare Lalka, Georgie’s Angel was bred in Kentucky by Scott and Carol Ricker.

Winning trainer Todd Pletcher said the race unfolded as he had hoped and that Georgie’s Angel would likely next contest the Spinaway S. (G1) Sept. 4, also at Saratoga. “We ran her back a little quick off her win at Churchill, so now we have a little extra time,” he said.

Bellamy Road now has five stakes winners in 2011, including Toby’s Corner, winner of the Grade 1 Wood Memorial. With more than $1.8 million in progeny earnings, Bellamy Road is the nation’s second-ranked second-crop sire.
