Gemologist colt sells for $235K at Saratoga Preferred Sale

Gemologist’s latest sales offering brought a winning bid of $235,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga New York-bred Preferred Yearlings sale on Aug. 14 at the upstate auction house.

Gemologist, whose first crop of runners have won four maiden special weight contests to date, was the leading freshman sire at the OBS April 2-year-old sale, and is seeing strong results with his 2016 yearlings as well.

Hip No. 509 was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency and went to Bob Peterson Racing and St. Elias. The bay colt is the first foal out of the unraced Stormy Atlantic mare Red Menace, who is a half-sister to four-time stakes winner Saratoga Snacks and comes from the same family as Grade 1 winner Without Feathers.
