A pair of colts from the first crop of Gemologist brought bids of $280,000 and $240,000 during the select session of the OBS 2015 August Yearling sale. The figures were the highest two paid for colts during Monday’s session of the 3-day sale.
For the day, Gemologist had a total of four yearlings sell for an average of $168,750, the highest average for any first-year sire represented at the auction.
Hip No. 190, consigned by Summerfield, agent, went to Gary Broad for $280,000. The Kentucky-bred colt is the first foal out of the stakes-placed Grand Slam mare Bailzee, who is a daughter of Grade 2 winner Golden Gale.
Summerfield also consigned hip No. 186, which went to Patrice Miller on Behalf of Zayat Stables for $240,000. The Florida-bred colt is a half-brother to stakes-placed True to You.
The OBS sale continues through Thursday, with Gemologist represent by two more yearlings, hips 244 and 796. The WinStar stallion also has a total of 60 yearlings catalogued in the Sept. 14-26 Keeneland sale.
