Gemonteer wins $100,000 Not Surprising S. in first stakes start

Gemonteer, a 3-year-old Distorted Humor colt, won the $100,000 Not Surprising S. July 7 at Gulfstream Park in very impressive style, drawing off with authority in the final furlong to take the one-mile turf contest by nearly five lengths.

Gemonteer didn’t make his first start until late April, when he broke his maiden. After a close second in a June 15 Gulfstream allowance, he tested stakes waters for the first time on Saturday. Sent to the lead soon after the start, Gemonteer had the lead until the top of the stretch, when his stablemate Shana Nova put his head in front. Gemonteer responded quickly, however, and kicked clear to get the mile in 1:35.61.

Owned by Gelfenstein Farm, Gemonteer has earned $81,700. Out of Letters of Silver and bred by Millennium Farms and Distorted Humor Syndicate, Gemonteer is a half-brother to three-time stakes winner Sister Ginger.
