Hold Me Back filly soars in $400,000 Delta Princess (G3)

Jet Black Magic turned in the biggest performance of her young career in Saturday’s $400,000 Delta Princess S. (G3), scoring a commanding 4 ¼-length victory for her first graded win.

Jet Black Magic is one of Hold Me Back’s 10 stakes horses this year. With more than $2.4 million in progeny earnings to date, the WinStar stallion ranks in the top 10 on the Second-Crop Sire list.

Jet Black Magic, who was third to La Appassionata in the Oct. 23 My Trusty Cat S., also at Delta Downs, turned the tables on her foe with an explosive move in the stretch, blowing past the favorite to finish the mile in 1:42.14 over a sloppy, sealed racetrack.

Jet Black Magic was bred by Clear Creek Stud out of the Silver Deputy mare Rhodelia and improved her record to 2-1-1 from four starts for earnings of $275,880. The win also earned the filly 10 points on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks series.

Rhodelia is a sister to the millionaire Superior Storm, who collected 13 stakes wins in 29 lifetime starts.

Jet Black Magic is owned by Carl R. Moore Management LLC and trained by Bret Calhoun.
