Ironicus and Joking highlight Distorted Humor’s Breeders’ Cup entries

Two of Distorted Humor’s 18 Grade 1 winners were pre-entered for this year’s Breeders’ Cup on Nov. 4-5 at Santa Anita Park.

Ironicus will be part of the full field of 14 runners in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1), which drew an overflow field of 23 horses. Ironicus, a Stuart Janney III homebred, has not finished worse than second in nine starts over the past two years, six coming in graded stakes. The 5-year-old has earned just over $1 million in 14 overall starts.

Joking, recent winner of the Vosburgh Inv. (G1), is one of nine entered in the $1.5 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), like the Mile, to be run on Nov. 5. Prior to the Vosburgh, Joking won his previous three outings, including the True North S. (G2). The Sprint will be Joking’s 40th lifetime start as the 7-year-old enters the race in peak form.

Both the Mile and Sprint run on Nov. 5. A victory by either Ironicus or Joking would give Distorted Humor his second Breeders’ Cup winner, joining 2011 Classic (G1) winner Drosselemeyer.

Official post positions for the Breeders’ Cup will be drawn on Oct. 31.
