Keeneland September: Speightstown colt hammers for $900,000

Speightstown’s $900,000 colt was one of the stars of Monday’s opening session of the Keeneland September Yearling sale. With six lots sold during the term for an average of $458,333, the results upped his overall 2017 yearling average to $351,576.

Glenwood Farm consigned the $900,000 colt, hip No. 157, which went to Shadwell Estate Company. The chestnut colt is out of the Medaglia d’Oro mare Devil by Design, winner of the Grade 3 Chicago H. and a half-sister to stakes winner Kolo.

Speightstown had two other lots bring at least a half-million dollars. Hip No. 28, consigned by Select Sales, went to Bridlewood Farm for $550,000. The filly is the first foal out of multiple graded stakes winner Jojo Warrior. Taylor Made Sales Agency consigned hip No. 76, also purchased by Shadwell, for $500,000. The colt is the first foal out of Beaumont S. (G2) winner Ready to Act.

Speightstown, the sire of over 80 stakes winners of more than $81 million lifetime, has a total of 58 yearlings cataloged in the sale, which runs through Sept. 23.
