Kitty in a Tizzy best in G3 Chicago Handicap

Kitty in a Tizzy put in a late run to capture the $150,000 Chicago H. (G3) Saturday at Arlington Park (VIDEO), becoming the latest stakes winner for her sire Tiznow. The venerable WinStar Farm stallion is once again in the top 10 on the General Sire List, with graded stakes winners such as Gemologist, Ellafitz, and Morning Line his $3.7 million-plus in progeny earnings this year.

The seven furlong Chicago H. drew a solid field of eight distaffers, and Honey Chile drew off to set a very rapid pace of :44.86 for the first half-mile. Kitty in a Tizzy, meanwhile, was positioned well under Francisco Torres, about five lengths from the front. Torres didn’t make the winning move until hitting the top of the stretch, going three wide to wear down the front-runners, ultimately winning by a length in 1:23.49.

“This filly was on the girth all the way around there,” Torres said. “When I eased her out turning for home with those two (Honey Chile and Lady Chesterfield) in front of me who were going pretty decent fractions, it was just a matter of when I was going to push the button on her. The race developed well and it paid off.”

Kitty in a Tizzy has made nine of 16 lifetime starts on all-weather surfaces and picked up her third win, and first in stakes company. She earned $87,300 to push her career bankroll to $265,985.

“She’s a Polytrack specialist,” said Kevin Bond, who saddled the winner for his father, trainer H. James Bond, “We were kind of hoping for the right condition. It opened up here and here we came.”
