Heavenly Champion's come-from-behind maiden win on Saturday at Gulfstream Park gave Kodiak Kowboy his eighth winner from his first crop, with nearly $300,000 in progeny earnings, moving the WinStar stallion to fourth on the Kentucky Freshman Sire list.
Colonel John remains No. 1 among Freshman Sires in Kentucky, and Pioneerof the Nile is currently No. 2 on the list.
Heavenly Champion scooted up the rail from fifth at the head of the stretch to win by 1 3/4-lengths. The Florida-bred is owned by Rontos Racing Stable Corp. and trained by Manuel Azpurua.
