Kodiak Kowboy firster rolls at Saratoga

Sidearm drew off to a 2 1/2-length Friday at Saratoga to move his sire Kodiak Kowboy to seventh on the 2013 Freshman Sire list with $205,397 in progeny earnings to date.

Kodiak Kowboy, who stood the 2013 season at WinStar for $6,500, has five winners from his first crop, which is tied for the most of all freshman sires standing in Kentucky.

Sidearm got away fifth in the six furlong maiden special weight affair, but with plenty of horse under him, Luis Saez took the bay colt several paths wide on the turn, ultimately striking the front in mid-stretch before clearing the field in the final furlong.

Bred in New York by Rhapsody Farm, Sidearm was a $95,000 purchase at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in April. He earned $42,000 in the win for a partnership that includes Harold Lerner and Ye Ole Posse Stable.
