Millionaire Revolutionary retires to WinStar

Multiple graded stakes-winning millionaire Revolutionary has been retired from racing and will stand the 2015 breeding season at WinStar Farm in Versailles, KY.

Revolutionary’s stud fee has been set at $7,500 stands & nurses, and he will participate in WinStar’s Dream Big Program, which offers breeders the opportunity to earn a lifetime breeding right in Revolutionary after producing just two live foals from his first books.

“Revolutionary has the talent, class, looks, and pedigree to be any kind of sire, and he’ll get every advantage that other successful home-raced stallions like Distorted Humor and Super Saver have gotten in their respective stallion careers,” said Elliott Walden, WinStar President & CEO. “It is very rare that you can take a great conformation photo of a stallion prospect while he’s still in training, but Revolutionary is the exception. His great looks and strong female family are big reasons why we already have several of our own mares committed to his first book. He’s a fantastic opportunity in our Dream Big Program, which has been very popular with our breeders. Last year, we booked Overanalyze very quickly on the Dream Big Program, and we anticipate Revolutionary will be just as well-received.”

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Revolutionary broke his maiden by 8 ½ lengths in New York as a 2-year-old, earning a 102 Beyer and 3 ¾ Ragozin for the performance – marking the fastest Beyer and Ragozin earned by a 2-year-old colt or gelding from his crop. In his first start at three, he showed determination to overcome a troubled trip and win the $200,000 Withers S. (G3) at Aqueduct.

Revolutionary catapulted to the top of Steve Haskin’s Derby Dozen heading in to the $1,000,000 Louisiana Derby (G2) at Fair Grounds. Despite giving up significant ground on the far turn, Revolutionary showed his customary acceleration and determination to roll by the field for a decisive victory in the prestigious final prep race for the Kentucky Derby, defeating the likes of Palace Malice. He remained No. 1 on the Derby Dozen for five weeks leading up to the Derby, where he again had to overcome trouble before finishing a strong third behind Orb.

In 2014, Revolutionary returned at Gulfstream Park with a handy win over next-out Grade 2 winner Falling Sky, running a mile in 1:35 flat and earning a 103 Beyer. He again faced trouble in a runner-up performance in the $600,000 Oaklawn H. (G2), falling just three-quarters of a length short to champion Will Take Charge after a long steward’s inquiry. Revolutionary rebounded in his next start with an electrifying win in the $300,000 Pimlico Special S. (G3) on Preakness weekend, cruising past Grade 1 winner Moreno to prove best as the betting favorite. Revolutionary earned a 106 Beyer for the performance, and the racing millionaire boosted his career earnings to $1,353,125.

Revolutionary retires with a career record of five wins and 10 total on-the-board finishes from 13 starts, from 5 ½ furlongs to 1 ¼ miles. Campaigned by WinStar, the striking dark bay colt represents the best racehorse by the late champion War Pass, who still stands as the fastest juvenile in over 20 years with his 113 Beyer recorded in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1). Revolutionary hails from the Grade 1-winning A.P. Indy mare Runup the Colors, who won the prestigious Alabama S. (G1) at Saratoga.

Bred by W. S. Farish, the female family represents one of the top Farish families, with a dozen blacktype winners within the first two dams including Horse of the Year Mineshaft. Similar to Super Saver, the family traces back to one of the best Phipps families, including the direct family of breed-shaping mare La Troienne.
