Modern Cowboy best in $125K WV Gov S.

Tiznow’s Modern Cowboy finished strongly in the final quarter mile to win the $125,000 West Virginia Governor’s S. at Mountaineer Park on Aug. 6, the second stakes win of 2011 for the 4-year-old colt. He took the $60,000 Bald Eagle S. Jan. 29 at Aqueduct.

Modern Cowboy was in hand in the early stages of the 1-1/16 mile contest. Rafael Bejarano gave him his cue on the turn, came between rivals entering the stretch to wear down Omniscient just inside the furlong marker and win by a half length in 1:45.40 on a fast track.

Trained by Todd Pletcher for Green Hills Farm Inc., Modern Cowboy is now 6-3-0 in 14 starts, earning $283,128. Green Hills bought the colt for $200,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale in 2008.

Chestnut Farm bred Modern Cowboy in Kentucky from the West by West mare Western Woman, dam of four other winners, including stakes winner Hype. Western Woman won the Cinderella S. and $114,800 in her career.
