More Than Ready filly overcomes trip in first black type win

Despite a wide in in Saturday’s Tropical Park Oaks at Gulfstream Park, Tammy the Torpedo bested Celestine in a three-furlong long duel to win by a neck and give the 3-year-old daughter of More Than Ready her first stakes victory.

“She had a really challenging trip, being wide the whole way; I really wasn’t happy with the trip at all,” said winning trainer Chad Brown. “But somehow she still found a way to win. It was an impressive effort.”

In the three or four path the entire trip, Tammy the Torpedo moved up from sixth after a half-mile to challenge Celestine for the lead going into the final turn. The early pacesetter, who had an inside trip, fought back and had the lead with a furlong to run, but Joel Rosario re-rallied Tammy the Torpedo to claim the hard-earned win in 1:43.33 for the 1 1/16 miles on the firm turf.

Tammy the Torpedo is now 3-0-1 in her six outings, including a third in the Miss Grillo S. (G3) as a 2-year-old.

The winner is owned by Long Lake Stable and Beacon Hill and was bred in Kentucky by William Harrigan.

Perennial top sire More Than Ready is the sire of 151 stakes winners and earners of more than $130 million worldwide. He will stand the 2016 season at WinStar Farm for $50,000 live foal.
