More Than Ready’s Roy H named Champion Male Sprinter

More Than Ready’s illustrious stallion career reached another milestone on Jan. 25 at the Eclipse Awards ceremony at Gulfstream Park when Roy H was named Champion Male Sprinter.

More Than Ready is one of the world’s leading sires, with more than 180 stakes winners and 80 graded stakes winners across the globe. Roy H is his first Eclipse winner, but ninth champion overall.

Roy H was nearly perfect in 2017, winning five of six starts and $1,270,090. His victories were topped by the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), as well as the Santa Anita Sprint Championship (G1) and True North S. (G2)

“My grandfather was a big mentor to me,” Gary Hartunian, owner of Rockingham Ranch, said in reference to naming his champion horse. “He was very disciplined. It was all, ‘Moderation, moderation, Gary.’ I just remember those words and him lecturing me to this day.”

David Bersen is co-owner of Roy H, who was bred in Kentucky by Ramona Bass.  The 6-year-old is out of the Elusive Quality mare Elusive Diva, who won or placed in eight stakes.
