OBS Day 1: WinStar stallions shine

During the first day of the OBS March Sale of Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training WinStar stallions put up big numbers across the board, with six stallions having at least one lot sell for more than $400,000.

Highlighting Tuesday’s session were a pair of $800,000 juveniles by Bellamy Road and Tiznow. The Bellamy Road filly, hip No. 139, was bought by Solis and Litt and was the top-priced female for the day. The Tiznow colt, purchased by Conquest Stables, is out of a full sister to Grade 2 winner and sire Jump Start.

A filly by Congrats lit up the board to the tune of $725,000 from a bid by C. F. Farms. The filly come from a great family that includes WinStar stallion Take Charge Indy.

Distorted Humor’s offspring are always popular with buyers, and Monday was no exception when Spendthrift Farm went to $650,000 for hip No. 61, a colt out of the stakes winner Dance Quietly, who is a half-sister to Horse of the Year Saint Liam.

Leading sire Speightstown’s top colt was hip No. 62, a colt which brought $500,000 from Live Oak Plantation. The colt is a half-brother to a pair of stakes winners and is out of Dance Swiftly, a full sister to Canadian Horse of the Year and Triple Crown winner Dance Smartly.

Young sire Super Saver was represented by four juveniles that brought six figures, led by a colt that hammered for $440,000 to M. V. Magnier and Ben McElroy. The colt is out of a half-sister to three-time Grade 1 winner General Challenge.
