Passion for Action rallies for first graded stakes win

Speightstown tallied his latest graded stakes winner on Saturday when Passion for Action rallied in the stretch to take the seven furlong Vigil S. (G3) at Woodbine by one length.

Speightstown is the sire of six stakes winners to date in 2016, with progeny earnings of more than $2.2 million.

Passion for Action, 4, was on the outside, in fourth, for the run up the backstretch before making his move for the lead while three-wide coming into the stretch. Hitting his best stride in the final furlong, the bay colt safely held off  Stacked Deck late to finish the trip in a very quick 1:21.65.

“I think we got very lucky on the trip. We had the best trip,” said jockey Eurico da Silva. “He was traveling so beautiful and comfortable and when I asked him he just took off.

“He’s a very smart horse,” continued da Silva. “If I have a little more patience, I can wait and stay a little bit behind. It’s very easy to ride him.”

Passion for Action, bred in Ontario by his owner, banked $108,000 in victory while improving his record to 5-3-1 from 14 starts, including stakes wins in the Cup and Saucer S. and Jacques Cartier S.
