Paynter’s Need Supervision rolls in $100,000 Safely Kept S.

Needs Supervision powered to the front in the final furlong of the seven-furlong Safely Kept S. at Laurel Park and drew off to a 3 1/4-length victory to give the 3-year-old Paynter filly her second stakes win of 2019.

A winner of three of her first four starts, including the $150,000 Silverbulletday S. in January, Needs Supervision is now 4-2-0 in eight starts and has earned $253,030. She is one of Paynter’s 11 stakes horses this year and has helped propel her sire to third on the Third-Crop Sire list with more than $5.4 million in progeny earnings.

Needs Supervision didn’t break alertly, but steadily made her way up the inside to take fifth after a half-mile in :45.58. She switched to the outside to make her run and flew past the pacesetters to win going away in 1:23.51 on a fast track.

“She’s just taken us on a hell of a ride from the day we got her – breaking her maiden, and winning her allowance and having the new owners come on board,” trainer Jeremiah O’Dwyer said. “It’s been a big help to my career, this filly has. We’ve got great owners, great staff and a much nicer quality of horses in the barn now.”

The winner is owned by Howling Pigeon Farm, Gary Barber, Wachtel Stable and Madaket Stables and was bred in Kentucky by Mike Abraham.
