Pink Poppy blooms in Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf

Tiznow got his first stakes winner of 2015 Saturday at Gulfstream Park when Pink Poppy strode to a 1 ½-length score in the $100,000 Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf S. Tiznow is now the sire of 58 worldwide stakes winners and finished among the leading sires once again in 2014 with $7.5 million in progeny earnings.

Pink Poppy was fifth after a quarter mile, but jockey Julien Leparoux sensed a slow pace and sent the 4-year-old filly to the front after a half-mile in :49.86. From that point, none of her foes got closer than a length as she completed the 1 1/16-miles on the turf in 1:43.51.

“We just wanted to win a stake with her,” trainer Marty Wolfson said. “I’ve liked her since day one. The way she trains, she’s very forward. She doesn’t do anything wrong, and she’s very sound. She beat some nice fillies today.”

Bred and owned by Arindel Farms, Pink Poppy has three wins in seven lifetime starts with $133,956 in earnings.
